Ninth Annual Ignatian Retreat

Co-Creating with God

"If the Lord does not Build the House" (Ps. 127)

Join us on Saturday, August 17th, for our Ninth Annual Ignatian Retreat! This year's presenter is Fr. Larry Gillick, S.J. of Creighton University.

During this 50th anniversary year of Emmaus House, Fr. Gillick will offer Scriptural suggestions and comments on our many houses; those we have left, those we have occupied, and those we are building. It will be a day of joyful prayer, silence, reflecting, and conversation. "I wouldn't want to miss it myself!" (Fr. Gillick)

Whether you are new to Emmaus House or have attended many of our retreats over the years, we hope you will join us. All are welcome. Prior experience with Ignatian spirituality is not necessary in order to attend.

About Fr. Larry Gillick, S.J.

Gillick October 2018.jpg

Father Larry Gillick, S.J. was born in Milwaukee and attended Marquette Jesuit High and St. Norbert College before entering the Society of Jesus in 1960.   He and his family have had a summer home on White Sand Lake near Lac du Flambeau, WI since 1952.  He remembers attending Mass in the theatre in Woodruff and at the little old St. Anthony’s Church in Flambeau.

After pronouncing his first vows in 1963, he received his bachelor's degree from St. Louis University in 1966. He taught at Campion Jesuit High in Wisconsin for the next three years. He was ordained in June 1972 after completing his theology studies at Regis College in Toronto. For the next seven years, he was on the staff of the seminary in Toronto as a Spiritual Director for the younger Jesuits.

He was sent to Omaha in 1979 as Spiritual Director for the young Scholastics studying at Creighton University and living at Campion House in Omaha. In 1984, he assumed the office of Rector of the Jesuit Community at Creighton Prep in Omaha. He served in this capacity until the fall of 1991, when he was assigned to be the Director of the Deglman Center for Ignatian Spirituality at Creighton University. After Campion House closed in May of 2001, he assumed the office of Superior of Mulumba House. He still serves as Director of the Deglman Center.

Father Gillick presently occupies his time doing spiritual direction of students, faculty, and alumni of Creighton University, as well as, directing retreats and days of reflection around the country.
