RETREAT 101:BASICS OF AN IGNATIAN, SILENT, DIRECTED RETREAT
January 13, 2017
What is a retreat?A retreat is a time of quiet when you can get away from the ordinary demands of life, a space where one might be able to gain a better perspective on the deeper meaning of life and to be able to come to better know God in an intimate and personal relationship.
While most of us have been on a retreat at some point of our life, most likely it was a preached retreat—a group retreat that was advertised as having a theme on which all the talks and reflections would be based.
The upcoming silent, directed retreat is an individual prayer experience, that is enriched and guided by a spiritual director, whom you will meet with every day, beginning Thursday evening. Your retreat will commonly follow the flow of the prayer of the Spiritual Exercises of St Ignatius, and will include scriptures and/or meditations that your director will suggest for your times of prayer. However, you and your director will determine together where the Holy Spirit is inviting you to focus your prayer and experience.
