If I Should Die Before I Wake...
“If I should die before I wake…” is the beginning of a well known bedtime prayer for children. Since February it reflects the prayers many Ukrainians may pray during the long lonely nights since the beginning of Russia’s violent invasion.
This past June I volunteered as a photographer covering the humanitarian efforts in Ukraine for the Rotary Club Kyiv-Sophia. During that time I captured images of the horrible effects of war on the people, the children and the culture of Ukraine. I also captured images of the incredible compassionate response by fellow Ukrainians in helping, feeding and caring for the countless victims of this war.

I was privileged to spend time observing the tireless and magnanimous efforts of the Rotary Club Kyiv-Sophia for the people of Ukraine. Their work was an inspiration and a joy in an otherwise bleak war torn country. - Fr. Jim Kirby
